As fashion continues to adapt to the ‘new normal’, Zalando on Thursday said that it will sell “affordable textile masks on the Zalando Fashion Store in all 17 markets” from this week. The sales are in support of charity Humedica’s coronavirus response.

A number of European governments and scientific institutions are either recommending or enforcing the wearing of textile masks in public, and even in those countries not currently recommending people wear masks, many consumers have decided it’s a sensible step to take.

“The resulting high demand has made masks a rare commodity,” Zalando said. “Next to keeping employees safe and protecting the company, it is important for [us] to offer solutions during the crisis where [we] can. Thanks to the company’s network of partners and its private label production, Zalando is able to offer non-medical masks for sale from today”.

The company said it’s important “that everyone should have access to a mask. Providing affordable textile masks will help people to protect others around them and preserve medical masks for healthcare professionals”.

The items cost from €1 each, the company starting with “a few designs” for now. It will continue to increase the assortment with more designs over the course of the coming weeks.
