Plans were first announced in June 2015. The company was outgrowing its old headquarters and needed a more sustainable solution to house its business. The move was finally just completed after two years of planning.

The new building is larger than the old headquarters. It takes up three stories and gives employees more room as the company continues on its growth trajectory. Vans revenue is in excess of $2 billion dollars.

Modernized features of the building include a solar panel array on the carport that will provide half the building's energy needs as well as 38 electric vehicle charging stations. Water and lighting were installed to be 48 percent more efficient than building code standards. Vans is in the process of getting the building LEED certified by the US Green Building Council.

In addition to the environmental benefits, the new building is designed to enhance Vans' corporate culture. The iconic checkerboard design is incorporated into the exterior. At the entrance is an "Employee Achievement Bell" that will ring every time an employee achievement is announced.

True to many corporate headquarters, the new building will feature a gym, yoga rooms, a game room and barbecue pit for employee gatherings. Vans has also activated outdoor wi-fi so employees can work away from their desks.

The new headquarters is located at 1588 South Coast Drive in Costa Mesa, 13 miles away from its old location.
