Wool connoisseurs know it well — the Woolmark logo celebrated its 50th anniversary in recent days through various events held in Sydney with many celebrities in attendance.

Woolmark is dedicated to the international promotion of wool. To mark the occasion, the organization picked Sydney's Catlereaght Street shopping district to stage a late night shopping event all about wool. The neighborhood's luxury stores gladly got involved as did the area’s David Jones department store.

Festivities also include an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Sydney with wool designs by Dion Lee, Christopher Esber, Strateas&Carlucci, Josh Goot, From Britten and Romance Was Born. The exhibition's opening brought out many Australian and international stars such as Baz Luhrman, Cate Blanchett, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Chris Hemsworth, according to SportswearNet.

The Woolmark Company is a division of Australian Wool Innovation, a non-profit organization owned by 25,000 Australian wool producers. Over 5 billion products have borne the Woolmark logo since its launch in 1964. Every year Woolmark hosts a design competition, whose jury for the most recent edition included Donatella Versace, Diane Von Furstenberg and Victoria Beckham. As young designers, both Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent both won the Woolmark Prize.
