Ports 1961 has released an active wear collaboration with American boxing brand Everlast. This sportswear-centric collection marks a new direction for the historic Canadian house.

This collaboration with Everlast was revealed in July at the house’s Spring/Summer 2017 showing in Milan. Critics panned the collection as not very cohesive with the rest of Ports 1961’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection.

The capsule collection includes eight athletic styles, including bomber jacket, t-shirts, tank tops, a poncho, and shorts, that utilize both Ports’ sixties-inspired patterning and Everlast’s heavy branding. The collection will retail between $125 and $495. Instead of the usual sizing Ports uses in its garments, the two labels reinvented Ports’ garment fits to accommodate a more athletic build.

This collaboration is a big step for Ports 1961. In the midst of buy-now-see-now and brands fighting to appeal to millennials, Ports 1961 has stuck to its roots, focusing instead on creating high-quality seasonal garments for its loyal following of established customers.

This isn’t the first luxury house as of late to tap an athletic company for a collaboration. Vetements has worked with Champion for several seasons on a selection of oversized hoodies and sweatpants. Adidas and Raf Simons paired up for a best-selling collection of Simons-branded Stan Smith sneakers. Stella McCartney’s capsule collections with Adidas have consistently performed well for over ten years.

Everlast is an American boxing brand best known for its logo-d boxing gloves and shorts, notably worn by Mohammed Ali.
