Patagonia International Inc. has appointed Marty Pomphrey as its new general manager for Japan, the business announced in a press release.

Pomphrey was born in 1970 and hails from Miami, Florida. After beginning his career at Nike Japan, Pomphrey worked as operations director and managing director at Fossil Japan and held several executive positions at the brand’s US headquarters. Since 2007, Pomphrey has worked on various business development projects as a consultant and entrepreneur.

“I am excited and honoured to join Patagonia, a company that I have deeply admired as a customer for over 20 years,” said Pomphrey. “In Japan, we have a clear opportunity, and responsibility, to apply our new mission statement, ‘we’re in business to save our home planet,’ across all aspects of the business to find innovative solutions to the climate crisis.”

Former Japan general manager Takasuki Tsujii first joined Patagonia in 1999 as a part-time staff member for the brand’s Shibuya store in Tokyo. Patagonia said in a statement that it is grateful for Tsujii’s many years of service to the brand.

Patagonia Japan is headquartered in Yokohama. The business was established in 1988.
