Macy’s is expanding overseas. The American department store has announced the future arrival of its store in Abu Dhabi. It won't be the only American store though, seeing as Bloomingdale's will be setting up shop there as well. However, the latter already has a presence in the United Arab Emirates, with its first store that opened in Dubai in 2010.

These locations in the Middle East are the result of a strategic partnership with retail conglomerate Al Tayer Group, a Dubai-based distribution giant which manages a portfolio of 35 brands including Boucheron, Bottega Veneta, Coach, Dolce & Gabbana, Emilio Pucci, Giorgio Armani, and Gap.

In 2018, Macy’s and Bloomingdale's will be nice and comfortable in the future Al Maryah Central shopping centre, which will include a surface area of more than three million square feet and be located on Al Maryah Island.

Macy’s will occupy nearly 205,000 square feet over four levels and Bloomingdale’s nearly 23,000 square feet. "We are continuing to study different international markets in order to understand how consumers around the world do their shopping in-store, online and on mobile devices. Even though the Macy’s and Bloomingdale's retail websites have been delivering to 100 countries since 2011, we are especially interested in the dynamism of the omnichannel in the world and the role played by physical stores in this equation," said Terry Lundgren, CEO of the group which achieved more than 27 billion dollars in sales in 2013.
