Louis Vuitton enlists Darren Spaziani to bolster accessories

Louis Vuitton is looking to upscale its leather goods and has tapped former Proenza Schouler director of accessories design Darren Spaziani to spearhead the project. He will assume his position at the company on October 1.

In the role, Spaziani will be tasked with the design and development of a “very high-end” line of leather goods that will complement the label’s existing collections.

Graduated from Central Saint Martin’s, Spaziani completed a stint at Louis Vuttion between 2004 and 2006 under the direction of Marc Jacobs. He has also held the position as head of accessories at Balenciaga in Paris and had consulted for both Diane Von Furstenberg and Tory Burch.

“I am delighted to be able to contribute to the history of Louis Vuitton,” says the designer. “It is every accessories designer’s dream to work for a fashion house with has such expertise.”

The appointment marks the first big new arrival at Louis Vuitton since Delphine Arnault took on her role of executive vice president at the brand. She adds: “Darren Spaziani is one of the most talented designers of his generation. He is already familiar with our house and he will bring his modern vision and great professionalism to Louis Vuitton’s creations.”
