Richard Malone, one of London Fashion Week’s rising stars, is opening his first solo exhibition, an interactive installation studying fashion, movement and art, at the Now Gallery in Greenwich this Wednesday.

The Irish designer, who was shortlisted for the LVMH Prize last year, has been announced as the winter collaborator of the art gallery, following in the footsteps of Molly Goddard, Phoebe English and Charles Jeffrey Loverboy.

Running from 28 November until 27 January 2019, the free ‘Rinse, Repeat’ exhibition will offer an insight into Malone’s processes and his ongoing study of the women’s form.

Sketchbooks with Malone’s techniques, dress samples and hanging fabric structures illustrate the reality of making and building around the human form, while a series of large moving images display performers repeating hypnotic movements inspired by the landscape of Greenwich Peninsula.

“The future of London is uncertain, and slowly being built in front of us. The aim of this installation is to literally light up the Peninsula with a body of work that is human, joyful, bold, creative and inclusive, as well as forward looking,” said Malone on the installation.

A Central Saint Martins graduate, the up-and-coming designer has received several awards throughout his career, including the prestigious LVMH Grand Prix scholarship and the Deutsche Bank Award for Fashion.

Last year, he was commissioned by New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) to create a custom jumpsuit for its first fashion exhibition in 73 years.

“There is a self-assured presence about Richard Malone’s work which lends itself to creating an exciting exhibition,” said Jemima Burrill, curator of the Now Gallery.
