As the drive to make e-commerce greener and more convenient continues, new delivery ideas are being embraced and InPost said on Thursday that it has signed up two more big names to its new Instant Returns service.

Schuh and New Look are now on board following news last month that Missguided was the first UK retailer to use the service.

Instant Returns allows shoppers to send back items by using a QR code on their phone, which simplifies the process. Another key feature is that there’s no need to print a label at home, which not only reduces paper and ink, but also makes it accessible or consumers with no access to a printer. That’s an issue that has come to the fore as more and more consumers have been working from home in the past year.

Recent research conducted by InPost found that 30% of people don’t have access to a printer at home they can use to print returns labels, rising to almost half (44%) of  people aged 18-34. As many as two-thirds (66%) of this age group reported that they would prefer to use a code that can be scanned on their phone, rather than having to add a physical label to the parcel they are returning.

Schuh’s CMO Alice Cleary said the new option appealed because the retailer is always looking for “the easiest and most convenient options” and “we are constantly looking for ways to operate more sustainably and minimise wastage, so the fact Instant Returns is paperless with no need for a printer means it’s the perfect fit”.
