New streetwear label Hex MCR has expanded its product offer following a successful small-scale debut last autumn. Co-founders Luke Powell and Andy Gibson started Hex MCR in October with a small collection of trucker hats and after seeing strong demand, they’ve added a fully organic range of unisex clothing with the added bonus of biodegradable packaging that dissolves in hot water.

The expansion is yet another example of the vibrant fashion sector in Manchester that has made the city one of the biggest sources of new, primarily online, fashion businesses in recent years.

The new offer is the first full collection from the label and has launched online with the company now selling the Core, Caged and Origin sub-labels as well as the new Organics line-up.

Organics is the brand’s new sustainable collection, featuring unisex hoodies, T-shirts, joggers, shorts, bags and caps made with GOTS-certified organic cotton and recycled polyester. The label’s customers will get their packages in that dissolving box.

Origin and Caged were the firm’s initial drops last year and include both trucker and distressed cap collections with the Hex logo embroidered on the front panel. Some of the caps in this range also feature the worker bee on the side “in a nod to the brand’s Mancunian heritage”.

The expansion comes after the label found fans among celebrities/influencers such as reality TV stars Scott and Adam Thomas, footballer Danny Simpson, Sigma’s Joe Lenzie and Love Island’s Callum Jones.

Co-founder Luke Powell said: “We’d been discussing starting a clothing business together for some time. We noticed streetwear had been growing in popularity and lockdown only accelerated the demand for athleisure clothing to chill, workout and work in, so, despite the economic uncertainty, we decided to take the plunge and set up the business during the pandemic.”

Since launch, the company has seen a 400% increase in sales from month one to month five.
