American gym chain Gold’s Gym announced on Monday its expansion to the footwear market through a partnership with Vibram.

The Vibram Five Fingers shoe

The two companies came together to develop the Gold’s Gym FiveFinger cross training shoe, which speaks to their passion for fitness and spirit of innovation. The collaboration shoe is slated to launch in early 2017 in North America. Los Angeles-based licensing agency Brand Sense Partners made the partnership between Vibram and Gold’s Gym possible.

"The partnership between Gold's Gym and Vibram is inherent referencing back to the legendary photos from Gold's Gym Venice where famous bodybuilders tended to workout barefoot," said Vibram's sales director, Chris Melton.  "Vibram FiveFingers is a natural training tool for active people everywhere, indoors and outdoors, from weekend warriors to professional athletes."

Gold’s Gym opened its first gym in Venice, California in 1965. Over 50 years later, the company has over 700 locations in 38 states and 23 countries serving nearly 300 members worldwide. Brand Sense Partners is the exclusive licensing agency for Gold’s Gym.

In addition to Gold’s Gym, Vibram works with Merrell, Danner, La Sportiva, Lowa, Red Wing, Sperry, Scarpa and The North Face among other brands.
