Fyfe replaces Matt Keogh, who is resigning from the business to pursue new career opportunities, said CRG. He will commence the role in early 2017. Ian Moir, WHL Group CEO will work with the executive team until this time, said the firm.

"I would like to extend my warmest thanks to Matt who has made a significant contribution across our Group in Australia and South Africa over the past 11 years," said Moir.

A company statement said Fyfe has spent 20 years at Marks and Spencer in a wide variety of roles spanning buying, merchandising and sourcing.

"Scott's depth of experience and track record in one of the world's most innovative and competitive retail markets will be of great benefit to CRG and its iconic brands. Scott's background takes in the full spectrum of omni-channel operations within a large scale, multi-brand fashion business. I look forward to his contribution at this exciting time for our Australian businesses," said Moir.

It follows Woolworths' appointment of fellow former M&S executive, John Dixon, as chief executive of David Jones, when it bought the business in 2014.
