Launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) together with London's Science Museum, the 'Couture in Orbit' project is a rather unique opportunity for fashion students. Four European fashion study programmes have in fact been asked to participate: the Esmod academy in Paris and Berlin, Denmark's Fashion Design Akademiet and Milan's Politecnico school.

The objective was to allow the student designers to work on textiles that are ESA-certified, dreaming up new looks both for everyday and exceptional occasions. The theme set to the Esmod Paris students was for example 'sport and movement'.

Their submissions were presented on 12th April to an ESA team, in the presence of designer Christian Lagerwaard, in order to select the best designs, which will be exhibited at London's Science Museum in May, to be showcased during a special 'Couture in Orbit' evening event.
