Brussels and Copenhagen are vintage hotspots, NYC and London look weak

Brussels has topped a new ranking of the world’s vintage hotspots with a report saying that it has the most shops per 100,000 people at 36. In second place is Copenhagen, although it's some way behind with only 12 vintage stores per 100,000 people.

And some cities that have a strong vintage reputation aren't doing so well with London only figuring at number 17 on two vintage stores per 100,000 people. That's despite London having a relatively large number of such shops in total at 145.

The report comes from OnBuy.com.

Meanwhile, New York has fallen into 15th place, also with only two shops per 100,000 although, again, it has more vintage stores overall at 179.

Moving further back up the list, in third place is Lisbon with 10 per 100,000 people, followed by Helsinki (9), Amsterdam, Stockholm, and Paris on seven each, Dublin (6), Zürich, Santiago, and Oslo on five each, and Berlin (4) and Prague (3). Vienna and Warsaw, like New York and London, have only two, followed by Rome and Madrid with only one each per 100,000 people. And São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Mexico City and Istanbul technically have zero per 100,000 (although these cities do actually have a few vintage stores in total).

As well as being popular shopping destinations for consumers, especially in the more eco-conscious world in which we live, vintage stores are also well known as inspirational destinations for designers and the lack of stores in a particular city closes off this avenue of inspiration.
