The arrival of Inditex’s Bershka at the St David’s mall in Welsh capital Cardiff sees the mall extending its fashion offer but also Bershka targeting a sizeable new consumer group as it’s the brand’s first location in the region.

St David’s is the area’s leading shopping centre and the new contemporary 8,500 sq ft store, which has now opened on the Upper Grand Arcade, has been designed by an in-house Bershka team. The new store sits directly opposite sister Inditex brand Stradivarius, which also made its Welsh debut at the mall earlier this year, and not far from rival H&M.

The centre is operated by the St David’s Partnership, a joint venture between real estate giants Landsec and Intu, and Colin Flinn, Intu’s regional MD west, said: “Bershka’s decision to debut their Welsh flagship at St David’s further demonstrates the destination’s appeal to international brands wanting to enter the Welsh market. With its location in the heart of Cardiff and strong catchment, it appeals as a destination for retailers like Bershka to expand their portfolios.”

Inditex has been putting support behind the expansion of the Bershka brand in the last year or so with the label also opening at the UK’s major Cabot Circus mall in Bristol this year.

Last autumn, the brand, which accounts for around 10% of Inditex’s sales, also set foot in the US for the first time with a debut in SoHo, New York City.
