Alexis Mabille is stepping up the pace of its Asian expansion. After the distribution agreement signed with Sanki in Japan in January 2014, the French designer has announced a partnership with Chinese fashion group Peacebird, covering his brand's distribution and communications in China.

"Under this agreement, Peacebird has acquired a minority interest in the company and has a seat on its supervisory board," the fashion label stated in a press release, without providing further details.

The majority interest in Alexis Mabille's company is held by Alexis himself and his brother Martin Mabille, the company's CEO. French investment fund Audacia and a Singaporean investor also feature among the company shareholders.

The new agreement is part of an international expansion strategy based on partnerships with local distributors.

"As far as the women's ready-to-wear line is concerned, we wish to develop internationally by forging links with retail professionals," said Martin Mabille, at the head of the fashion label since its inception in 2005.

Founded by Zhang Jiangping 20 years ago in Ningbo, in the coastal province of Zhejiang south of Shanghai, the Peacebird group styles and distributes its own women's and men's ready-to-wear collections in China. The brand is positioned in the medium-high end market segment, with aspirations to enter the luxury one. Peacebird relies on a network of 3,400 retail outlets and generates sales in excess of €1 billion.
